Where does Easter emoji come from?

Before we get into all the emoji used to symbolize the holiday, it’s helpful to know a little bit about it. Easter is a central Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ after his crucifixion. The holiday is linked to the Jewish holiday of Passover and shares a lot of the same symbols鈥except for the cross, of course. It also draws from ancient pagan traditions and imagery.
The first Christian observance of Easter is dated to the mid-second听century. The date of Easter changes depending on the calendar, but it usually occurs in early spring. That’s why so many of the symbols of Easter are so closely related to springtime and the new birth (i.e., new life, resurrection) that occurs at that time of year, including newborn lambs, chicks, and rabbits.
This brings us to all the emoji possibilities for this holiday. Every year around March since at least 2013, people turn to Google to try to find an Easter emoji. Unfortunately for these searchers, there is no one, single, official Easter emoji.
But there are many options for the holiday. Animal symbols include a听Rabbit Face听馃惏, Rabbit听馃悋, Hatching Chick 馃悾, and Baby Chick 馃悿 emoji. There is also an Egg emoji 馃, though there’s no decorated Easter egg.
