Avenaceous comes straight from the Latin adjective 补惫脓苍腻肠别耻蝉 鈥渕ade from oats,鈥� a derivative of 补惫脓苍补 鈥渙ats,鈥� which comes from the same Proto-Indo-European source as Lithuanian 补惫颈啪脿 and Slavic (Polish) owies, both meaning 鈥渙ats.鈥� Avenaceous entered English in the 18th century.
