The sheriff’s investigation spanned more than a year, and three people ultimately were charged criminally: Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez and assistant director David Halls, who was in charge of on-set safety.

In March 2024, the film’s first armorer, Hannah Gutierrez, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

David Halls, the ‘Rust’ assistant director, described the day that Alec Baldwin accidentally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the movie set, during armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s trial.

But I also wrote about what I was proud of that year, and my hopes for 2018 Hannah—and gave my future self some wise words I hoped she’d remember as she headed off to college that coming fall.
