The cornered head of the Pentagon has responded to the scrutiny of Signalgate with a series of purges, firing senior advisers and top aides over fear of leaks.

It's the first major shake-up in the ranks of Trump, who has been trying to avoid the chaos of his first term when he went through four national security advisers, The Associated Press reported.

Waltz, who was the president's principal adviser on national security issues, has had a difficult tenure amid accusations that senior officials used insecure methods of communication to conduct government business.
