The book, for which Cross conducted more than 400 interviews, won an award from ASCAP, the performing rights organization, and was described by former Los Angeles Times pop music critic Robert Hilburn as “one of the most moving and revealing books ever written about a rock star.”

He’ll be honored at ASCAP’s Rhythm & Soul Music Songwriters and Publishers event on June 27.

BMI, along with its archrival ASCAP, is one of the major performing rights organizations in the United States.

Their campaigns can buy licensing packages from music rights organisations like BMI and ASCAP, which gives them legal access to more than 20 million songs for political rallies.
