Rory McIlroy was already one of the world's biggest sports stars, but his dramatic Masters victory at Augusta National has taken him to a whole new level.

There were many years when the late, great Val Pinchbeck would put it together then go down to Augusta to enjoy the Masters, and that tournament was in the books two weeks ago.

Officials insist the new system works well and point to growing participation numbers, which are expected to be further boosted by McIlroy's dramatic and inspirational play-off win in Augusta.

“That seemed to make quite a statement,” Lyle told the Augusta Chronicle.
