Barbary Lane’s endurance is proof that love can still win if you’re willing to show up and fight for it.

“At times whole squadrons of corsairs were cruising off the coast of the United Kingdom,” says Bernard Capp, emeritus professor of history at The University of Warwick and author of British Slaves and Barbary Corsairs.

Ouadrhiri’s family has worked here with Barbary macaques since the 1970s.

Their paper, published in eLife, says crested macaques use a higher diversity of facial behaviour more often, compared to Barbary and rhesus macaques.

And in almost every case, it is Barbary who informed them of the news, delivering the happy decision in middle-of-the-night phone calls, celebratory clubhouse announcements and emotional office meetings.
