In 1987, Linda Keenan brought Umberto Eco’s “The Name of the Rose” with her on vacation to Cinque Terre in Italy.

Diving into the same Cinque Terre waters where they reveled in their youthful escapades before the tides of life pulled them apart, the duo came full circle.

Formative, and transformative, their kinship endured, though in physical absentia, even after their splendid summer days of boyhood buoyancy in the Cinque Terre region ended.

The setting took me back to my own Italian summer, which included seemingly endless days of eating seafood pasta overlooking the gorgeous beaches in Finale Ligure, chasing trains to walk the cobblestone streets of Cinque Terre and listening to old grandmothers banter about the best way to make pasta in town squares.
