The route loosely follows the Continental Divide, at times zig-zagging over it on gravel roads, dirt roads and trails and some single tracks, said Dillon Key, who works at Great Divide Cyclery in Helena.

“This year will be busier than normal, but it’s not going to affect the experience that much,” said Jared Fischer, the owner of Las Vegas Cyclery and Moab Cyclery and the founder of bike-tour company Escape Adventures.

“From a trail-builder standpoint, between a regular and class one e-bike, there’s really no difference in wear on the trail. It’s just a philosophical problem that needs to be resolved,” said Randy Collins, owner of College Cyclery in Reno.

Cheri Tillman, who owns the Pro Cyclery bike shop in Las Vegas with her husband, Mike, has observed a greater sense of driver courtesy on the road following the tragedy.
