A Johns Hopkins graduate with a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Fayal also has carried out nearly a decade of part-time college-admissions coaching for companies such as Kaplan and Omnitest Prep.

In a departure from the usual norms on advice-minded Internet sites like Yelp or TripAdvisor — which don’t pay for content — Fayal is letting AdmitSee’s contributors collect 50% of the revenue generated by their postings.

A few contributors have collected more than $100 to date; none has topped $500, Fayal says.

Lydia Fayal, AdmitSee’s co-founder and chief executive, is trying to split the difference with a site that’s both affordable and highly credible.
