Sheri Urlacher said her daughter was sent home from Fremd High School in Palatine after officials at the door of the school handed her a mask and asked her to put it on.

Jean Chiswell, 90, a library assistant for the Montgomery County Public Schools in the 1970s and 1980s, died Feb. 19 at the home of a daughter in Germantown, Md. The cause was complications of head injuries suffered in an accidental fall, said another daughter, Patricia von Fremd.

Not long after that, Rosie and Sarah Reichl, now 14 and 15 and both freshmen at Fremd High School in Palatine, became close friends.

The controversy there began two years ago, when a transgender girl at William Fremd High School in Palatine asked to use the girls’ locker room.

He graduated from Fremd last year and attended the forum because he wanted to be an “informed voter,” he said.
