Grandpa is an informal word for grandfather—the father of a person’s parent.

Digging through old family trinkets, we found this letter from my grandpa to my grandma written in 1953. It's hard to read, but the last two lines say:

"Darling, is it out of the ordinary to propose by letter from Ireland? Yes! Each their own. Will you marry me? I love you."
