The band have claimed their take on Republicanism is partially tongue-in-cheek - satirising the self-important sloganeering they grew up with.

“It just so happens that I grew up in South Central, and some people just didn’t take notice of us in general, but we’ve always loved the same things.”

Lam grew up in northern Vietnam and made his way south after the country was split into two states.

“I imagined it would be overwhelming but also it was exhilarating,” says Daniel Tronco Velasquez, 23, who was born in Peru and grew up with films as a constant childhood companion.

The Loves grew up in Baldwin Hills, and Stan was the fourth of six children to Milt and Glee Love.
