We’re told, late in the book, that Avice’s role as an Immerser means that her thoughts aren’t always straightforward and rational — but we’ve already figured that out long before.

So for this write-up, I’m covering the first three parts of “Proem: The Immerser.”

Avice is an "immerser," a sailor of the non-Euclidean space that links human colonies on planets scattered across the galaxy and beyond.

Many of the English translators of the New Testament always render baptizo, immerse or dip, as “John the immerser,” or “John the dipper.”
