In the past day, the encampment, which sits between John V. Croul Hall and Rowland Hall, has grown from roughly a dozen tents to more than 20.

“Girls are more likely to disclose suicidal thinking than boys, and more likely to attempt suicide in adolescence, even though boys are more likely to die by suicide because they choose more violent methods,” Dr. John V. Campo, director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, told The Times.

It took six years of secret negotiations, led by board chairman and former Sen. John V. Tunney and John Walsh, director emeritus of the J. Paul Getty Museum, but a deal was finally reached.

“The kids are very, very sick, and they’re not getting better as quickly as they used to,” said Dr. John V. Campo, director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.
