During the programmes, the "host politicians acted as newsreaders, news interviewers or news reporters in sequences which clearly constituted news - including reporting breaking news events - without exceptional justification", according to Ofcom investigations last year.

The problems did at least bring one delightful moment: A Radio 4 newsreader announcing the delay of a gig by US rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

In five of those cases, the newsreader was paid more than £10,000 for each event.

In time, the former newsreader referred to some of the material as “amazing” but it is not clear whether that meant the legal or illegal images.

In July, the former newsreader admitted having 41 such images, which were sent to him on WhatsApp - including some showing a victim aged between seven and nine.
