A day earlier, the medical examiner identified Salvatore Ragusa, 48, as the man whose body was also found inside the home and ruled his death a suicide.

Salvatore Ragusa died from smoke inhalation and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner.

A man in his 50s was struck by a whirlwind as he left his house in the early morning near the city of Ragusa, the civil protection office said.

“Before the pandemic, we were looking at increases year over year in containers,” Ms. Ragusa said.
