Back in December, alcohol importer Raza Zaidi in San Francisco placed an order for a pallet of gins, liqueurs and bitters from a Mexican spirits producer.

“He’s such a loving man. Refined and loving. He’s what we say in Mexico is gente de raza.”

At least five other volunteers had joined them, including members from the Harriet Tubman Center for Social Justice and Association of Raza Educators.

The campus also has a LatinX graduation — formerly Raza graduation — that started in 1973.

“We’re doing community patrols before school and after school around the neighborhood,” said Lupe Carrasco Cardona, a member of the Assn. of La Raza Educators.
