Members of reggae group UB40 – Birmingham's working class band that went on to become global superstars – have spoken out in support of the city's striking bin workers.

At a time when the country’s political context was increasingly heavy, their reggae and funk-infused sound was light — dominated by danceable songs about weekends at the beach and cheeky covers of reggaeton hits.

There have been plenty of rumours about what direction the long-awaited record will take, including talk of it being a reggae album.

A special concert celebrating Birmingham's reggae history is to take place on what would have been Bob Marley's 80th birthday.
