Speaking outside court, Caroline Santer, headteacher at the King's School in Hampshire, said she was hopeful the review would change things as they had a "strong argument".

Ms Santer said the primary school, where fees start at £7,258, charges less than it costs the government to put a child in state school "saving the government a lot of money".

“He would say things like ‘Santer Aniter’ and ‘Bull Shoemaker.’

"I think the government has either misunderstood or ignored the diversity in independent schools," said Caroline Santer, head teacher at King's School.

"I'd like to see the government make fees more proportionate, acknowledging that parents should have the ability to choose how they want their children educated in accordance with their religious beliefs," Mrs Santer continued.
