“We’ve known for decades that lead exposure has serious long-term impacts for children’s health. And yet, millions of lead service lines are still delivering drinking water to homes,” EPA Director Michael Regan said.

He also called the customer service line but he said the person on the other end of the line couldn’t definitively tell him whether his home would lose power or not.

The agency has said it will release new information on lead service lines projections later this summer.

Across the U.S., more than 9.2 million households get water through lead pipes and service lines, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

“The City has demonstrated belated compliance since the hearing, but even now, it has not actually replaced all of the lead service lines, which it originally promised to replace by March 28, 2020.”
