The de Brécy Tondo, which sits in a collection set up by Cheshire businessman George Lester Winward and which was thought by some experts to have been a Victorian copy, has been the subject of research and debate for more than 40 years due to its resemblance to Raphael's Sistine Madonna.

But he’s confident Raphael created the Tondo, perhaps even before he started the Sistine Madonna.

Many art historians remain unconvinced, and they suggest the Tondo’s exact resemblance to the Sistine Madonna is telling.

But since the 18th century, the Sistine Madonna has primarily hung in palaces and museums in Dresden, Germany.
