Stau sleptons are supersymmetric versions of a Standard Model particle called the tau lepton.

Coincidentally, it would be called the tau lepton.

It was, for the record, the tau lepton that netted Perl the 1995 Nobel Prize in physics.

The Standard Model of Physics predicted that each charged lepton had a neutral counterpart: A tau lepton couldn’t exist if there weren’t also a tau neutrino.
