Starting in 1888, his fannish admirer Horace Traubel sought to memorialize as much as possible of the old man’s daily activities and conversation.

Multiple strokes left him wheelchair-bound and infirm, but he spent countless hours talking with Horace Traubel, who transcribed their conversations for a nine-volume, 6,000-page collection called “With Walt Whitman in Camden.”

Now 91, a lot has changed since she worked at Traubel’s Popcorn Stand in downtown Beatrice in the late 1930s, but the Kensington resident got a blast from her past Thursday.
